Day 4: Bangkok to Chiang Mai

I bought tickets for the sleeper train to Chiang Mai. Saw this bus whilst on my way to the train station

Interesting coffee shop at the mall – a Star Backs coffee shop right next to Starbucks. Even the logos seemed similar!

My bunk was the one underneath – apparently they have more space and still have the window. It wasn’t much cheaper than flying but I wanted to experience the sleeper train and the scenery arriving into Chiang Mai was supposed to be amazing (it wasn’t!).

Days 1,2,3: London Heathrow to Bangkok via Guangzhou

Flying to Thailand from the UK is along journey. Especially if you fly via China Southern Airlines who transit via Guangzhou which is East of Thailand.

With a 3 hour stop in Guangzhou I found the entire journey was the best part of a day.

In flight safety seemed to assume the plane had disappeared

Some amazing places – Wuhan, Ulan Bator

The wifi at Guangzhou was an interesting experience. I ended up using WeChat

Street food in Bangkok included a van with cocktail bar and cinema
