Day 9: Slow boat to Laos – arriving in Luang Prabang

The view from the balcony at Pak Beng. Beautiful but good to leave

Boats moored up

This kid was sweet. This was his first taste of Candy Crush

I was hovering near the engine area to stretch my legs and this kid boards the boat through the window

This guys job was to bail water. That fan looked rather dangerous

Finally made it into Luang Prabang. Food at the night market

Day 8: Slow Boat to Laos – Pak Beng

Crossed the border at Friendship Bridge #4 between Thailand and Laos

Then onto the slow boat

Which is partly slow cos it’s a huge boat with a small engine bit also cos it drops / collects locals en route

And finally into Pak Beng which is a bit of a hole.

Day 7: Slow boat to Laos – White Temple, Chiang Khong

The next leg was the slow boat to Laos.

Visited the White Temple en route. Needless to say it’s all white

There’s even white carp

This was macabre

The white things in this fountain are coins

Arrived at a great little hostel with a swimming pool in Chiang Khong. It seems the tours are usually run by the owners of the hostels which is why you end up there.

Day 6: More Temples in Chiang Mai

A quiet day planning the next stage of my trip but still managed a few more temples

Day 5: Temples in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai has a lot of temples. So I spent a day wandering around temple spotting. This is at the NE corner of the town inside the moat

The main one is Wat Chedi Luang but here are a few en route

Then finally Wat Chedi Luang. The new temple

And, for me more impressively, the old

This red vehicle is a shared taxi that drives round everywhere in Chiang Mai.

The night market
