A chilled day.
Long swim (200 lengths) then checked out and into my new hotel, the gorgeous Golden Temple Villa. I cannot recommend them enough. Really. Go there now.
These guys are trained up to do artisanal crafts.

Tue May 24th
Time to leave the lovely Hoi An.
Danang has some amazing beaches. Miles and miles.
Flew across Laos jungle. Amazing clouds so shot some time lapse footage (which won’t upload yet).
Dinner at Genevieve’s – amazing restaurant. Met some new friends.
Favourite foods so far in Vietnam:
Goi Cuon – translucent spring rolls packed with greens, shrimps and coriander usually served with a rich peanut sauce.
Culture day today.
To see the various temples, museums, etc you have to get a ticket called something like the Culture pass Hoi An. It costs 120,000 VND (around £3.50) and let’s you into 5 temples.
Top of my list was the Japanese bridge. Getting the you pass all the artisanal shops that Hanoi is famous for. Custom suits and dresses, leather bags.
The more memorable places were the Japanese Bridge
and Tan Ky, an old merchant house where the residents still live upstairs
The hostel offered to courier my rucksack to Hoi An and rent me a one way motorbike (actually a scooter) for $18. It would mean I could see all the sights from Hué to Hoi An that I would otherwise miss – pretty good deal!
First was Tu Duc’s Tomb (the name is actually Tự Đức if you include all the accents). This is a monument for the Emperor built around 1867 which is built in an estate that includes lakes and gardens.
Some amazing coastal roads with sand dunes full of tombs
An amazing road up and over the mountain into Danang where I got a puncture. Fortunately I found someone to fix it after wobbling along for several kilometres.
And finally into Hué in the dark a bit later than I expected.
A walking trip around Hué (with the proper accents it’s Huế).
The Imperial Citadel
Expectant carp
Bonsai goodness
Elephant topiary
And this is the theatre
